Why Volunteer? Why Not?

Date: 9th Feb 2021 Author: Ciarán Carr

As we emerge into a post Covid world soon, let’s all hope for much better times ahead and a closer normal than we have for a long time. 1st Fressingfield Scout Group has been providing youth services to the young people of the area for 110 years and we are now preparing for the future.

Our youth numbers have dropped throughout the pandemic, but all evidence points to the fact that when young people can return to face to face Scouting we are likely to see an explosion in children applying to join Scouts. The mental and physical health of our young people has suffered over the past year, social responsibility and community cohesion has been replaced by isolation and self-preservation.

But these issues have not just affected young people, it has in fact affected young and not so young alike. Loneliness has never been higher and happiness in short supply. 1st Fressingfield Scout Group, wishes to meet the need to provide quality, exciting, adventurous, skills based youth provision to every young person aged 6-18 when the time comes. To be able to meet the need, we need more adult volunteers to join our already strong and committed team of leaders. There is a role for everyone who wants to contribute to our core purpose of Scouting through a skills for life programme. We don’t want to have to turn any young person away.

New adult volunteers will not only support the national effort of rebuilding our society from the youth-up, but will become a member of a friendly supportive local family of likeminded people within a world-wide organisation. Here are just a few of the benefits to you:

  • Join a community within the community – mutual support and friendship assured;
  • Be a member of the Nobel Peace Prize nominated global movement of Scouts and Guides;
  • Flexible training scheme, providing you with skills that can be applied outside Scouting;
  • Opportunity to share the stars, see the smiles and endure the challenges.

We need your help, but after a year of lock down – don’t you need us? So why volunteer – why not? JOIN the Team and let’s have some fun 🙂 We all deserve it!!

Scouting provides a second family to lots of young people. It’s a safe place where they can aspire and grow.'
