Village Newsletter: May 2022

The Explorers and Adventurers Scouts joined together for a Celebration of Mums evening, preparing curry, chapatis, mug cakes served with lots of tea and a rose. Their Mums came for an evening of friendly conversation and refreshment. The experience was much appreciated by the Mums and helped the Scouts to develop kitchen skills and teamwork.

Now the evenings are lighter, Wednesday Sections (Warrior Beavers and Wolves Cubs), have been able to work on photography skills and learning about how to use different effects and filters. They have also been swimming at the School pool in Yoxford and have made good progress towards their swimming badges.

Monday Cubs (Tigers) have had our numerous boxes of donated Lego out again. A huge range of models were constructed ranging from houses, police stations, beach scenes, zoos and tractors to cars. A really fun evening with a huge sense of friendly teamwork to achieve individual projects. Earlier in the month they spent an evening working on codes and code cracking with teamwork challenges.

Ninja Beaver Colony (Monday) have begun to learn about camping, with evenings spent looking at lightweight camp stoves and seeing how to pitch tents.

Pioneer Troop Scouts and Tigers pack Cubs joined the Hoxne Parish Council organised Village Litter Pick for some community service, and had a very productive morning. We felt this went some way to acknowledging the hospitality of the Village when we were without a meeting place and the generosity of Hoxne Parish Council with recent grants.

Apart from the Section activities Leaders are working on plans for our Group Camp at the end of April, which will probably have happened by the time this comes through your letter box!
Because of the difficulties over the last two years this will be our first Group Camp for three years. We are going to Eaton Vale Activity Centre near Norwich for a weekend of camping, adventurous activities, comradeship and just being together. The Beavers are joining us for a day of activities on the Saturday.

Over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend we are having our own event on Thursday evening, providing attractions and First Aid cover at Fressingfield, and barbeques at Hoxne and Stradbroke village celebrations.

Scouting provides a second family to lots of young people. It’s a safe place where they can aspire and grow.'
