Village Newsletter: December 2020

Date: 1st Dec 2020 Author: Ciarán Carr

During the last few weeks Explorers have spent a very dark evening on a Night Navigation Hike around footpaths. Their Zoom sessions have focussed on Remembrance and Reflection and included time with the Fressingfield Royal British Legion. This year, because of the lockdown, there have been no Remembrance Services, although we have laid wreaths at War Memorials as usual.
As well as Zoom sessions with a virtual treasure hunt around the streets of Norwich and some quizzes, Scouts have had a pumpkin carving evening in the dark at the new site which went very well with a good display at the end.

Cubs have been meeting at the new site, this involves two sessions as we are limited to 15 in the group, with plenty of Leaders. Activities so far have mainly involved nature projects, map reading skills and fire lighting. Beavers were just getting restarted mixing face to face and Zoom with similar activities to the Cubs. Unfortunately, with the new lockdown we have moved back to only Virtual Scouting on Zoom.

Thank you to everyone that has supported our CrowdFunder campaign, www.crowdfunder.co.uk/new-hq, although we didn’t get to our rather ambitious target, we have achieved getting on for £6000 at the time of writing and are still accepting donations! There will be a further boost from a sponsored parachute jump by the chair of our Executive Committee and one of the Scout Leaders in November. If you would like further information please contact scouts@ciarancarr.co.uk

You may have noticed a bit of activity on and around the new site as we prepare to have the services connected in anticipation of progress with the building.

Recently we have been donated two excellent gazebo shelters by someone that no longer has a use for them. We are very grateful for this especially as one that we were using was twisted out of shape beyond use at a Cub Camp towards the end of last year during a storm. In the last year or so we have also been gifted a table tennis table and a table top football game, this sort of gift will happen only rarely but it occurs to us that perhaps cooking equipment might be more often looking for a new home? We need metal pots, pans and utensils for use at camp so anything not breakable or easily melted is useful particularly frying pans, cooking pots, dishes and trays and things like ladles and spatulas and even redundant grids from barbeques and grills. Small axes, logging saws, pruning saws and spades or entrenching tools are also useful. If you can help with this please contact any Leader or Michael on 07761827053

We are running a Virtual Quiz Night on Saturday 12th December at 7:00pm, in an effort to bring families together whilst raising funds and awareness for our New HQ Campaign.
