Covid-19 Statement (01 November 2020)

Date: 1st Nov 2020 Author: Ciarán Carr

Dear Parents and friends of 1st Fressingfield Scout Group.

I am sure that you have been following the news and have seen that we are about to enter into a further period of national lockdown, this is dreadful news but the decision is out of our hands. As you will expect I have been reviewing government guidance and while the Scout Association has been silent so far, I believe that the government expectations are clear. In the guidance it states “some youth services may be able to continue, such as 1-1 youth work and support groups, but most youth clubs and groups will need to cease for this period”

Therefore with immediate effect all face to face scouting at 1st Fressingfield (with the exception of the school sections) will cease with immediate effect. I fear that as a country we have a difficult couple of months a head and therefore we should not expect to return to scouting (f2f) until the beginning of 2021. I will be reviewing this regularly and will update you should the situation change.

I would like to thank you all for your commitment to the group and assure you that the Scout Leaders and Executive Committee are working to maintain a strong and effective digital scouting programme for the rest of the autumn term.

We are here for our scout members and families so please get in touch if we can extend a virtual-hand of friendship, offer a digital hug or a zoom-listening-ear.

We are devastated to take this step backwards and are hoping for a better 2021. The team and I are planning a few Group events in the coming weeks and months including a virtual Remembrance Sunday and a celebration event of 1st Fressingfield scouting during 2020. Stick with us and I really hope that we will see real people quickly in the New Year.

Yours in Scouting
