May and the start of June have been a busy time for Fressingfield Scout Group. At the beginning of May we held our annual Group Camp at Eaton Vale Activity Centre near Norwich, 16 Leaders and 55 Young People ranging from 6 year old Beavers to 17 year old Explorers spent from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon enjoying, canoeing, nature walks, archery, shooting, climbing, abseiling, catapult shooting, Scout skills, camping, games and friendship. The weather was a little unkind with wind and showers but this didn’t reduce the enjoyment. Have a look at our Facebook page and the website to see loads of pictures.
Pioneer Troop have been on an overnight camp in Hoxne, starting with a 4 mile navigation Exercise, camping, sleeping in shelters they constructed themselves, cutting firewood, lighting fires and cooking on them. They also spent a day helping Fressingfield Oily Rag Club at the RBL Fundraising event by litter picking and keeping the site tidy.
The Explorers had a memorable evening building a bridge with poles, ropes and planks over the Goldbrook at Hoxne, and have individually been telling other sections about their trip to Kenya.
The Beavers have been trying out fencing as a martial art and making some craft items, and Cubs have worked hard to achieve their communication badge.
In early May several members were involved in providing a barbeque and supporting runners in the Stradbroke Triathlon, this was another team activity but with the bonus of a couple of hundred pounds raised for the new headquarters fund.
There has also been another workday at the new site in Priory Road, we now have some internal fencing, a new gas store, and a start made on the outdoor chapel area. Thank you to the members and parents who took part.
Our Annual Open Evening is on Friday 19th July, at our new site, parking will be available on New Street at the paddock opposite Carpenters Close courtesy of Peter Davidson. Please come along and see the progress at the site and join us in a range of activities. Barbeque and beer tent available.
