First this month an update on the new site.
We have made some progress with improving the new site, several hundred tree saplings have been planted around the plot along with bluebells and other native flowers along the tree line on Priory Lane. We also have wild meadow grass seeds to sow around the edges of the field soon.
A successful grant bid to install a trim-trail of climbing equipment has been received and by the time you read this the equipment should be situated at the top left hand side of the field along the fence line.
Our actual construction of the building part of the project is taking much longer than we had hoped but we have recently made some progress, hopefully there will be some definite news in the next couple of months.
On the 6th April, 11 members of the Explorer Unit will be heading off to Kenya to work with our partners and friends at Mothers’ Mercy Home. The orphanage offer shelter, support and education to over a hundred young people many rescued from the streets of Kenya. The Explorers will be immersed in African culture for over two weeks, we will be taking donations of clothing, school shoes and school stationary items. Any donations will be gratefully received.
The Scout Association has recently conducted its annual membership census and this has confirmed that the Group has grown yet again second most popular Group in the District of 14 groups. But with these numbers and a growing interest in Scouting, many of our sections are now full and for us to offer more opportunities to more young people we need more adults to volunteer and help us deliver an exciting, challenging and rewarding youth programme. If you are interested in joining our excellent team of volunteers please contact Andrew Aalders Dunthorne on 07908262623.
Also the Scout Group is an official point for the collection of empty crisp packets for recycling. The bags will be processed into other plastic objects so please pack them in a carrier bag, tie it securely and either hand it to a member, bring it along on a meeting evening or leave it at the Goodwin Hall in the marked dustbin. We will be paid per kilo that we forward so please help us to fund raise and the area to recycle a bit more plastic.
WANTED – quality new items for a Grand Summer Draw: We will soon be printing raffle tickets for a grand draw and would really welcome any items that would make quality prizes. Please contact Andrew on 07908262623 to pledge an item..
