The Cubs have been enjoying the winter Olympics with their own take on Ice Curling. They enjoyed making their own curling stones and then competing in their sixes by sliding their ice cubes down a make-shift ice sheet. A lot of fun was had by everyone.

The Beavers have been working on their International and My World Badges. They have tasting food from other countries, spent a night “exploring” Kenya. Closer to home they have looked at Countries within the UK by doing different activities such as stories, games and a ceilidh. They also have a visit to Stradbroke fire station planned.

On the first weekend of half-term the Leader team and the Explorers attended a Leader development weekend in Milton Keynes. As well as sessions on leadership skills, International involvement and planning for the future of the Group there were team building activities such as archery, air rifle shooting, climbing, caving, fencing and fire lighting in the rain. On Saturday evening we had a formal dinner and quiz.

We are grateful for the support that we have had from the village for the Commonwealth Day Firework Display.

Progress has been slow with our new and exciting Headquarters development due to unforeseen issues, some technical and some legal. These have all been resolved and our solicitor has confirmed that the land transfer to the Scout Group has now been completed. The land, approximately 0.8 acre, off Priory Road, is held in a Trust for and on behalf of the 1st Fressingfield Scout Group, with the sole purpose to provide Scouting facilities for the locality. This project has taken a mammoth effort to get this far and we are aware of the huge challenges moving forward including raising funds.

We are working to comply with the planning conditions before we can begin development; we hope that this will take only a few weeks. The initial work on the site will be a tidy up of the hedge line to enable the fencing to be installed.

There is much work to do to raise the necessary funding and we have a team working on that. We are grateful for the support that we have had from the village for the Commonwealth Day Firework Display.
