Scout Group 2014 Census return

1st Fressingfield Scout Group has grown again for its fifth successive year – with those actively involved in scouting with our Group up by almost a third. Our Scout Group family now stands at 155 individuals. This is a fantastic effort and shows how highly the Scout Group is seen locally, it also puts additional strain on our existing resources including our funds and accommodation.

Breakdown of the figures are as follows:

HQ Development

The Scout Group Executive is working with a number of organisations and individuals to ensure that our HQ is fit for purpose as we continue to grow. We have a great relationship with the “Goodwin Trust” who have long supported the Scout Group with cost effective accommodation. Other options are also being actively looked at. We have a target of £200 000 to raise to secure a HQ for the future we have had a positive response from the National Lottery although we need to secure a site first. Our sections are now looking at how to raise the funds. Donations are also very welcome and should be addressed to: Emma Craig, Executive Treasurer.
 
 

Adventure Scouts – London Marathon

Sarah Coulter (mum of Adam & Lucy, Adventure Scouts) will be pounding the streets of London in the hope that the streets will be paved with money in this years London Marathon. All money raised will go to the HQ Development fund.
 
 

Explorer Unit to jump for joy (and cash)

Members of the Fressingfield Explorer Unit will be participating in a charity tandem skydive – in the summer holiday – with cash raised again towards the HQ Development fund.
 
 

Other fundraising events

After their very successful Quiz Night the Pioneer Scout Troop will again be in Hoxne this time supporting the village spring clean – Pioneer Scouts will be collecting trash for cash in a sponsored litter pick.

While our two Cub Packs will be taking the concept of the “Three Peaks Challenge” and developing a sponsored walk called the “Three Cakes Challenge” where walking is combined with consumption of sweet treats :)
 
 

New leader

Welcome to Jake Stringer who will be taking up the role of Assistant Scout Leader (Adventure Scout Troop) after his 18th birthday!
 
 

Leadership Development weekend

Twenty-four members of the Scout Group including adult leaders from all sections and Explorer Scouts(Young Leaders) will be attending the Leadership Development weekend – this year at HillTop Activity Centre, near Sheringham. Attendees will spend the weekend team building, planning programmes as well as developing skills in residential planning and activities outdoors. Star Gazing Cubs

Almost 40 cubs, leaders and their families visited the Seething Observatory recently. The clouds parted and the rain stopped for a wonderful evening of star gazing.
 
 

Ice & Fire Expedition – final countdown

The Scout Group expedition to Iceland in May is now fast approaching – 22 members of the Explorer Unit and Adult Leadership team will be attending the week long expedition to Iceland. There is a briefing for team members and parents on Thursday 20th Feb at 7pm in the Sports and Social Club.
 
 

Royal British Legion

On Thursday 20th Feb at 8pm the Fressingfield & District Branch of the RBL are hosting an open meeting/social at the Fressingfield Sports and Social Club. Refreshments and a cash bar are available and a raffle will raise money for the Scout Group’s youth development programme – including our “Ice & Fire” Expedition to Iceland in May. We are proud to have close links with the RBL locally.
 
 

Pioneers to polish up on first aid

Members of the Pioneer Scout Troop will be undertaking a first aid course in emergency aid during March.
 
 

Senior section spring expedition camp

Please note that due to a number of factors the senior section spring camp has had to be rolled forward to the 21st to 23rd March. Details including the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme practice expedition will be published soon.
 
 

Group Camp

Bookings for the Group camp at Thorpe Woodlands, Thetford will open on Monday 3rd March. The camp takes place over the weekend 02-04 May. Beavers to Leaders can request places, there is a maximum of 100 places available and each section has been allocated a quota of places – we will be operating a strict first come first served system. Places can be secured with a £20 deposit.
