Welcome to the spring newsletter from 1st Fressingfield Scout Group, I hope that you find it useful and informative. The Scout Association has recently conducted its annual membership census and I am pleased to advise you that the Group has grown yet again with a combined, young person, Explorer Unit and Leadership team of almost 150. This is a huge achievement and puts us as the second biggest Group in the District of 14 groups. But with these numbers and a growing interest in scouting, many of our sections are now full and for us to offer more opportunities to more young people we need more adults to volunteer and help us deliver an exciting, challenging and rewarding youth programme. If you are interested in joining our excellent team of volunteers please contact me.
Yours in Scouting

The winter has slowed progress a little, although several planning meetings have been held and number of opportunities are currently being explored. A great turnout for our Action Day in December got a significant amount of landscaping and clearance work complete. THANK YOU to everyone that came and helped during the day.
As mentioned earlier a new obstacle course will be installed in March and will be available to use soon. We have some other smaller scale projects to complete as we move into the summer including fencing the pond and wildlife area, building the outdoor chapel and sowing some wild meadow flowers around the fringes of the field.
On the 6th April, 11 members of the Explorer Unit will be heading off to Kenya to work with our partners and friends at Mothers’ Mercy Home. The orphanage offer shelter, support and education to over a hundred young people many rescued from the streets of Kenya.
The Explorers will be immersed in African culture for over two weeks, we will be taking donations of clothing, school shoes and school stationary items. Any donations will be gratefully received.
Our annual Group Camp will this year be held at Eaton Vale Activity Centre, near Norwich. All sections – Beavers through to Explorers will experience a packed weekend of activities based around the great outdoors – programmes are being developed but you can be assured that the programme will be challenging, engaging and FUN. Details to follow soon.
I am delighted to advise you that 1st Fressingfield Scout Group has been nominated to the High Sheriff’s Awards – in the ’Your Suffolk Voluntary Organisation Inspiring Young People Award’ section.
