On Thursday 6th November starting at 7:30pm we will be holding our Group Executive AGM. Please come along and support your Scout Group.
During the evening (an hour) there will be a presentation by the Group Chairman on our HQ development campaign – this is a hugely exciting and challenging project and we will need everyone’s support and help to ensure we are
successful. The 2016 Kenyan Expedition Team will also share their hopes and aspirations for the trip.
There will also be opportunity to hear from the Section Leaders about what has happened in the past year, review the Group’s accounts and we hope that the new District Commissioner will also be able to join us and say a few words.
The formal part of the evening will involve election of the new Executive committee, if you are interested in standing as Secretary, Treasurer or Fundraising Officer please email the current Executive Secretary Dawn Carman-Jones at firstname.lastname@example.org
Section leaders will also be approaching you for parent reps on the committee. There will be refreshments and a friendly atmosphere please join us if you can.
Sunday 9th November will see the nation and our community come together for the annual act of remembrance. As always we will be asking for all our members to attend the service and parade in Fressingfield. The Scout Group will assemble on the Fox and Goose car park at 1030am. If you are unable to attend the Group Parade and service in Fressingfield – please attend your own village event and wear uniform – please let your section leader know if you are doing that.
Unfortunately the Gang Show has been cancelled as the venue, Stradbroke High School, was unable to confirm the completion date of building works in the the main assembly hall. The Gang Show will be back in 2015.
Congratulations to Colin Clarke (Scout Leader, Adventurers) and Marc Aalders-Dunthorne (Assistant Scout Leader, Adventurers) for completing the Archery instructor course. Well done also to Chris Carman-Jones (Cub Leader, Wolves), George Austin (Assistant Cub Leader, Tigers) and Ronan Craig (Explorer) who all have completed Level 1 kayaking.
From after half term the Beaver Colony has adjusted how it operates slightly – it will continue to meet on a Monday evening but will open its doors at the slightly later time of 5:15pm, each evening will start with some games and the ’official’ part of the evening will run between 5:30 and 6:30pm. This change allows for more young people to join the colony, that were excluded by the earlier start time.
The Tiger Cub Pack will relaunch officially in January with Julia Green, Cub Leader, Tigers. The pack will move to a Thursday evening and will operate the same times as our Wolf Cub Pack (6:00pm-7:30pm). Julia is currently visiting local schools to recruit new members – there will be the first ’meet and greet’ meeting of the Pack on Thursday 4th December.
As part of our massive fundraising campaign for our new HQ – the Executive committee has organised an evening with Simon Weston. Simon a veteran of the Falklands War – will be recognisable to many, his speaking engagements are both moving and uplifting. The event is on Saturday 28th March at the Diss Corn Hall. Tickets £15pp can be purchased from the Corn Hall (with 50p
going to the Corn Hall) or can be reserved by emailing Dawn on email@example.com with the full £15 being received by the Scout Group. Bar and refreshments will be available on sale along with a quality raffle.
Did you know that the Scout Group has its own marquee (20ft by 30ft) traditional style marquee that can be loaned to individuals for a contribution of £150 per day/weekend. The marquee can be delivered and collected from the locality. We help in its erection and striking – although a team of four is needed from the hirer. If you are interested in using our marquee email Andrew:
