Outdoor activities feature prominently, with the highlight being camping. Throughout the year, Scouts learn various skills, such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for camp.
Rock climbing, potholing, gliding, photography and international experiences are just some of the things they get up to.
We currently have two Scout Troops and 37 active members. If your child would like to join us, or you’ve got an interest in helping us out then please get in touch – we’d love to hear from you!
We meet on Tuesday nights from 7:00-8:45pm
with 19 active members
SL – Michael Knights
ASL – Richard Betts
ASL – Chris Carman-Jones
Young Scout Leader – David Mobbs
The Scout Leader is Michael Knights and the two Assistant Leaders are Richard Betts and Chris Carman-Jones. Michael has been involved with the Pioneer Troop since it was formed in 2012 originally as an Assistant Leader. Richard left our Explorer Unit in 2016 and became an Assistant Leader when he turned 18 and Chris joined us from Cubs in early 2019. We are assisted by David, who is a member of the Explorer Unit.
Each term we try to have a couple of sessions based around traditional Scouting skills mixed in with current badge requirements.
In the last two years we have had our own weekend troop camp, been canoeing and climbing, helped at Fressingfield British Legion Fete (twice), taken part in the Hoxne Village Clean Up (twice) and sent a team to the District shooting competition. We also took part in a martial arts session, learned about fire safety and visited a fire station, assisted with a pioneering session at Beavers, ran a pop up pancake café for parents and friends, had a Pumpkin carving and Bonfire party, tried out archery and air rifle shooting and had a Day Camp with the Cubs! As well as all this we have attended various Group events and Camps, a Jamboree and a Water Activities Weekend.
We meet on Friday nights from 7:15-9:00pm
with 18 active members
